Edinburgh Industry Alliance
  • Alliance Launch

A new industry alliance is set to trigger growth in the defence sector in Northern Adelaide — creating new jobs and

    building life-long careers

The Edinburgh Industry Alliance has been formed with the guidance and support of the City of Playford to work with government and stakeholders to help address supply chain challenges and the greater need for onshore sovereign industrial solutions.

The Alliance consists of leading South Australian companies, including:

Century Engineering -selected by BAE systems Australia as a participant on the strategic supplier pilot program and help digitise its supply chain for the $45bn Hunter-class frigates program.

Levett Engineering - a world leading precision component manufacturer with an international client base in Defence & Aerospace; the 2018 Business SA Qatar Airways Exporter of the year.

XTEK - protecting the front line protectors, providing high frontline

products and tailored solutions to government agencies, law enforcement, military, space and commercial sectors.

Aimpoint - Building capabilities for Defence & Industry.

BiOrg - providing integrated logistics support, project management, engineering management and software development services to Defence.

Eptec Group - selected by ASC to deliver the $66 million contract for the blast and paint on the Collins Class full cycle dockings and is a Known Land Vehicle specialist.

Sonnex - Over 30 years of experience in engineering, sheet metal and profile cutting.

Williams Metal Fabrication - delivering bespoke metal fabrication solutions to South Australia's defence, marine, civil and construction companies and have also worked on many of the regions largest infrastructure projects.

Lionsgate Business Park - SA's largest industrial park and the former Holden Manufacturing Facility.

All of these businesses are located close to the Edinburgh Defence Precinct, which is home to one of Australia's Super Bases, Defence Science and Technology group, including defence's next-generation high performance computing centre, BAE Systems Australia and the future location of Boeing Australia's $160 million defence aircraft maintenance facility (to support the deep maintenance of Australia's

P 8A Poseidon aircraft). This precinct is located adjacent to Adelaide's North-South Motorway - offering unrivalled freight connectivity to national rail and road lines and the Osborne Shipyards.

Adelaide's Northern Suburbs are also home to other Major Defence Primes including:

    SAAB Australia

    Lockheed Martin Australia

    Raytheon

    General Dynamics

    Northrop Grumman

The concentration of all these companies within Adelaide's Northern suburbs once again demonstrates that it is at the heart of Australia's Defence State.

Craig Schmidt, Chair of the Alliance and Head of Armour & Composites at XTEK Limited said:

" This is exciting on many levels, including the opportunity presented to government and primes to come into an area and be confident that industry will collaborate to ensure the best outcomes for a customer. This includes providing total product and service solutions for their needs. All nine members will seek to ensure the maximum utilization of our industry capability in advanced engineering, manufacturing and supply chain programs for Defence and specialized areas in Australian and International markets."

Matt Burnell,MP - Federal Member for Spence said:

" This local capability ensures the Edinburgh Industry Alliance can take advantage of opportunities, build capacity and innovation."
